Kizomba is a partner dance, and although there is a lot of technique and personality each person can bring, the magic happens through connection. Fostering connection is communication through movement and energy, and if each person doesnโt speak the same dialect it can be difficult.
Many classes and workshops teach style specific rules, patterns, and lead driven partner work. This vocabulary is important, but when itโs taught, it often assumes the participants have the fundamental skills needed to know how and when to use the material. This class is aimed at helping both leads and follows understand and apply Kizomba fundamentals universal to all styles of Kizomba, fundamentals that are specific to only certain styles, and how to consider the rest as options rather than rules.
Adaptive skills are often viewed as follow skills, some consider it the follows โresponsibilityโ to match the lead. BUT a good dance happens when both parties understand and work with each other to create the dance. A well rounded lead, the one all the follows want to dance with, has these skills.
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ-๐ฟ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐: This workshop is aimed at kizombeiros that have:
- social dancing experience
- taken workshops or classes beyond the – introductory beginner level
- an understanding of the differences between styles of Kizomba
*All of the activities planned for the workshop are not lead or follow specific, there will be partner work, but we will be switching roles, so that everyone can understand each side.
* Limited spots for individual focus
